Modernizing Medicine on Friday held a grand opening for its new headquarters in Boca Raton.

The medical software company moved into the historic Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRIC) late last year following a 2017 announcement that it would create more than 800 jobs and invest $15 million in the local economy. Currently, Modernizing Medicine has about 400 employees in 64,000 square feet on the second and third floors at 4850 Network Way. As the company adds hundreds more workers, it will eventually occupy 150,000 square feet at BRIC.

“The great thing about this location is we can scale in phases,” Modernizing Medicine CEO Dan Cane said.

City officials, former executives of IBM, representatives from Crocker Partners (the landlord of BRIC) as well as about 100 other attendees came to the grand opening. Cane offered opening remarks that were followed by a few words from Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer and Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce CEO Troy McLellan. Attendees then gathered for a toast and ribbon cutting.

“We hold this company up as the gold standard of what we hope to attract to Boca Raton,” Singer said.

Modernizing Medicine’s expansion is the largest company economic development deal in Boca Raton since 2009. Cane said it was important that the company, founded in 2010, stay in Boca Raton and the new headquarters’ flexibility to grow with the company was a big reason why it was chosen for its new campus, he said.

Employee desks line the outer ring and collaborative spaces are in the center. Conference room names reference parts of historic technologies developed in Boca Raton, including the IBM personal computer, radar and the smartphone.

The Boca Raton Historical Society provided working IBM personal computers released in the early 80s to display at the event.
